Chiropractors Sunshine Beach

Looking for a chiropractor in Sunshine Beach? We assess stair-and-hill knees, hips and backs at our Coolum Beach clinic.

Sunshine Beach streets climb steeply from the sand, and plenty of homes sit on sloping blocks with long runs of stairs. When people look for chiropractors in Sunshine Beach, it is often for knees, hips or a lower back that complains on those climbs, or for surfing injuries from the open beach. We have no clinic in the suburb. The closest Rasura door is at 4/21 Birtwill St, Coolum Beach, further south along David Low Way past Peregian. Surfers and stair-climbers wanting a chiropractor near Sunshine Beach can phone (07) 5446 5044 for a time.

Hills, stairs and surf shape a lot of what Sunshine Beach residents ask us about. Among its 2,480 residents at the 2021 Census, the median age was 49 and almost a third of occupied homes, 30.8%, were rented. Many residents walk to the beach and back up again every day, and some notice knee or hip pain, or lower back pain, on the climb home.

No Rasura clinic sits among the hill streets, so locals looking for chiropractors in Sunshine Beach book with our Coolum Beach chiropractor team, where Dr Ken Rasura and Dr Amanda Frache, both chiropractors, consult. For surfers and senior students in sport, we also offer sports chiropractic. Anyone after a chiropractor in Sunshine Beach can call to check session times.

ABS 2021 Census QuickStats show 30.8% of occupied Sunshine Beach homes rented and 35.5% of dwellings empty on census night.

Why choose us in Sunshine Beach

Why Sunshine Beach locals make the drive to Coolum Beach

Steep streets and beach stairs ask a lot of the lower body. When people look for chiropractors in Sunshine Beach, they usually want someone to look at how they climb, squat and paddle, then explain what they found. That is how our first visits run. We examine, talk through the findings and agree a plan, which may include hands-on care and exercises you can do on your own stairs.

If assessment points to a problem that needs a different practitioner, we refer you to your GP or another clinician.

Stairs and slopes assessed

We watch how you step up, step down and squat, because hill and stair loading can reveal knee and hip issues that a flat walk hides.

Orthopaedic and movement testing at the first visit

Paddling and pop-up strains

Surfing injuries often involve the neck, shoulders and lower back from paddling and pop-ups. Our sports chiropractor Sunshine Coast approach looks at the paddling shoulder and arched lower back together, then sets graded exercises.

Services

Services for Sunshine Beach knees, hips and backs

Stair tests, surf-specific movement checks and a full history come before any treatment. Four of these five services are available to people looking for chiropractors in Sunshine Beach at Coolum Beach. Dry needling runs at Alexandra Headland.

Knee and hip assessment

As a knee pain chiropractor team, we test how the knee and hip move under load, including stepping, squatting and stair work. We check the joints above and below, explain what seems to be involved and may use adjusting, soft tissue work and strengthening exercises. Hip pain and knee complaints that need imaging or medical review are referred.

Best for: Pain on stairs, hills and steep driveways

Knee pain care

Lower back care

Lower back pain can flare when you carry shopping up a long flight of stairs or bend under a house on a slope. Bending, reflex and leg sensation tests help us work out what is involved, and we explain the results. Depending on those findings, care may mix adjusting, soft tissue work and practical tips for carrying loads up a flight of stairs.

Best for: Back strain from stairs, lifting and gardening

Lower back pain care

Surfing and sports chiropractic

Paddling, duck-diving and pop-ups place repeated load on the neck, shoulders and lower back. We assess these areas, explain what may be contributing and combine hands-on care with mobility and strength work. Advice on returning to the water is given gradually, and suspected tears or fractures are referred for medical review.

Best for: Surfers who want a chiropractor in Sunshine Beach to check paddling strain

Sports chiropractic

Neck and shoulder care

Looking up while paddling and down at study notes load the neck in opposite directions. So our neck pain treatment opens with tests of both movements and of the arm nerves. After explaining what we find, we may use adjusting, soft tissue work and exercises, and we give senior students and workers desk and phone posture tips.

Best for: Stiff necks after surfing or study

Neck pain care

Dry needling

For dry needling on the Sunshine Coast, you would book at Alexandra Headland rather than Coolum Beach. Dr Lillie Lines, a chiropractor with myotherapy training, uses it as one part of care for muscle tension in the hips, shoulders and lower back. The technique is discussed with you and consent is given before any needling.

Best for: Muscle tension alongside chiropractic care

Hill and stair loads for chiropractors in Sunshine Beach

Between the national park and the open beach

Sunshine Beach is bordered to the north by Noosa National Park and faces the open ocean to the east. Census counts from 2021 put the population at 2,480 and the median age at 49. Houses make up 56.9% of dwellings, semi-detached homes 17.1% and flats or apartments 26.0%. At census time 35.5% of dwellings were unoccupied, and 30.8% of occupied homes were rented.

Steep streets and long stair runs

Many homes sit on sloping blocks above the beach, so daily life involves stairs and hills. Walking down to the sand is easy. Walking back up with a board, a beach bag or shopping loads the knees, hips and lower back. Apartment living can add more stairs. Surfers on the open beach deal with paddling and wave impact, and surfing injuries are common, and the local high school sends active senior students into sport most weeks.

Why we see you at Coolum Beach

Rasura has no clinic in Sunshine Beach. From the Sunshine Beach headland, the trip to our Birtwill St rooms runs past Sunrise and Peregian on David Low Way, which is how most chiropractors in Sunshine Beach searches end up at 4/21 Birtwill St, Coolum Beach. Parking and wheelchair access are available.

Testing on the stairs

We ask how many stairs and slopes you deal with each day and test movements that match them, such as step-ups and single-leg squats. After explaining the findings, we may suggest strength work for the hips and thighs, pacing on hills and changes to how you carry loads up stairs. Hip pain with night pain or unexplained weight loss is referred to your GP.

Common problems & solutions

Common complaints from Sunshine Beach's hills and surf

Hills and surf account for most of what people searching for chiropractors in Sunshine Beach bring to us. We test and explain before treating anyone who comes to a chiropractor in Sunshine Beach's nearest clinic for these, and refer you to your GP or another practitioner when chiropractic is the wrong fit.

Stairs

Knee pain on stairs and downhill walks

Cause
Repeated stair climbing and steep downhill walking load the front of the knee and the kneecap joint, especially when hip muscles tire.
Why it matters
Knee pain on stairs can make the walk home from the beach or up to an apartment hard work.
Our solution
As a knee pain chiropractor team, we watch you step down from a box, check kneecap tracking and hip control, then explain the findings. Hands-on care and step-down drills may follow.
Prevention / next step
Take stairs one at a time when sore and build hip strength. See your GP for a hot, swollen knee or locking.

Signs to watch for:

  • Ache going down stairs
  • Stiffness after sitting

Knee pain care

Hills

Hip pain from hills and sloping blocks

Cause
Walking up steep streets and working on sloping gardens loads the outer hip and the hip joint itself.
Why it matters
Hip pain can disturb sleep on the affected side and make longer walks uncomfortable.
Our solution
Hip rotation, glute strength and how you walk on a slope are all tested, along with the lower back. We go through the results with you, and care may include adjusting, soft tissue work and side-lying strength work.
Prevention / next step
Take the gentler streets when you can, put a pillow between your knees at night and see your GP for night pain or a sudden limp.

Signs to watch for:

  • Outer hip ache at night
  • Pain climbing hills

Hip pain care

Surf

Lower back and neck strain from surfing

Cause
Long paddles hold the lower back in extension and the neck tipped up, while pop-ups and wipeouts add sudden loads.
Why it matters
Surfing injuries in the back and neck can cut sessions short and linger into the working week.
Our solution
Back extension, shoulder rotation and pop-up mechanics are checked before we discuss the findings. Adjusting and soft tissue work may be combined with mobility and core drills for the board.
Prevention / next step
Warm up on the sand and build paddling time gradually. See your GP or emergency care after a heavy wipeout with arm numbness.

Signs to watch for:

  • Lower back ache after paddling
  • Neck stiffness after a session

Sports chiropractic

Students

Sport and study strain in senior students

Cause
Training for school sport combined with long study hours at a laptop or phone.
Why it matters
Neck pain treatment and back advice can matter when training load and exam weeks overlap.
Our solution
Students aged 16 and over get a full history, including training load and study hours, and a movement examination with findings explained. Care may involve adjusting, exercises and a study desk setup.
Prevention / next step
Raise screens to eye level, take breaks and build training gradually. Pain with fever, night sweats or waking at night needs a GP visit.

Signs to watch for:

  • Neck ache after study
  • Back tightness after training

Sunshine Beach questions

Where is the nearest clinic to Sunshine Beach?

You will not find Rasura chiropractors in Sunshine Beach. Head south down David Low Way to 4/21 Birtwill St, Coolum Beach, phone (07) 5446 5044, where Dr Ken Rasura, a chiropractor since 1992, and Dr Amanda Frache, also a chiropractor, consult. The clinic has parking and wheelchair access. If you would like dry needling, that is offered by our Alexandra Headland team instead.

My knees hurt on the stairs at home. Can a chiropractor help?

A chiropractor can assess the knee, hip and ankle, test how you manage stairs and explain what seems to be involved. For some people, care may include hands-on treatment and strength exercises. We cannot promise a particular result, and if the findings suggest something needing imaging or medical review, we refer you to your GP. Hip pain and knee pain often need to be looked at together.

Do you see surfers?

Yes. Surfing injuries we commonly assess include lower back strain from paddling, neck stiffness and shoulder strain. As a sports chiropractor Sunshine Coast clinic, we look at how you paddle and pop up, talk through what we find and may pair hands-on care with board-specific exercises. If a wipeout has caused arm numbness, weakness or a suspected fracture, please see your GP or emergency care first.

Can senior high school students book?

Yes. We see students aged 16 and over for back, neck and sport strains. A parent or guardian can attend with younger students, and our team will talk through the assessment and plan before any care. If your sport club or school coach has given you advice, bring it along so your chiropractor can take it into account.

I rent in Sunshine Beach. Can I still claim on my cover?

Yes. Claiming depends on your cover, not where you live. HICAPS processes extras claims on the day, and our Bupa preferred chiropractor and Medibank Private preferred provider listings apply whether you rent or own. A long-term condition may qualify you, through your GP, for Medicare-rebated allied sessions, capped at five in each calendar year. DVA is also accepted.

Do surfers need a GP letter to see a chiropractor in Sunshine Beach's nearest clinic?

No. A surfer with a sore knee can ring and book without seeing a doctor first. A referral matters only if you want a Medicare-rebated plan or are a DVA cardholder. Plan on around 45 minutes the first time and 15 to 30 minutes after that. If a physio or coach has seen your knee or shoulder, bring their notes, any scans and a medication list. A quick call to Coolum Beach confirms the session times.

Business information & location overview

From Golden Beach to Sunshine Beach

Sunshine Beach was once known as Golden Beach and was rarely visited before the 1920s. In 1928 Thomas Marcus Burke gained land in return for building roads and bridges from Tewantin. After World War II his son Marcus marketed the area as Sunshine Beach. The coastal road now called David Low Way was extended south from Pacific Avenue and opened in 1960. A state school followed in 1982 and Sunshine Beach State High School in 1992. Today the suburb's northern edge adjoins Noosa National Park. That same coastal road now carries people looking for chiropractors in Sunshine Beach south to Coolum Beach.
