Your questions, answered

How can chiropractic care help with back pain?

Chiropractic care is a holistic approach that focuses on treating the whole body including the spine's alignment and musculoskeletal system. It aims to alleviate back pain by addressing misalignments, improving mobility, and promoting natural healing.

Is chiropractic care safe for treating back pain?

Yes, chiropractic care is safe and non-invasive. Our chiropractors are 5+ years medically trained professionals who use precise techniques to adjust the whole body, focusing on the spinal joints, discs and nerves, providing relief from back pain without surgery.

What causes back pain?

Back pain can stem from various factors, including poor posture, incorrect lifting, gym or work injuries, the normal ageing process, pregnancy and more.

See our top 12 list of causes here.

What can I expect during a chiropractic treatment for back pain?

During a consultation, your chiropractor may conduct assessments to diagnose the cause of your back pain, including an in depth medical history, physical examination including range of movement, posture, gait assessment, neurological testing and orthopaedic and if necessary diagnostic imaging.

They may then use hands-on adjustments, gentle spinal manipulations, and other techniques to realign your joints, discs and spine to help alleviate back pain.

They may also provide personalised advice to help reduce the risk of further back pain.

Is chiropractic care suitable for all types of back pain?

Yes, chiropractic care can be effective for all types of back pain, including acute and chronic pain, as well as pain resulting from injuries, poor posture, and everyday wear and tear.

How many chiropractic treatments will I need to see results for my back pain?

The number of treatments varies based on the severity and underlying cause of your back pain. Your chiropractor will create a personalised treatment plan that may include multiple treatments over a few days or weeks.

Can chiropractic care complement other treatments I'm already receiving?

Absolutely. Chiropractic care can be used alongside other treatments like myotherapy, remedial massage, deep dry needling, acupuncture and pain medication to enhance the overall effectiveness of your back pain management.

Is chiropractic care covered by my Private Health insurance?

Many insurance plans cover chiropractic care for back pain. Check with your insurance provider to understand what you’re covered for. You can also ask your GP about an EPC plan, which is a health care scheme that entitles you to see a primary health care practitioner such as a chiropractor for 5 treatments.

Is chiropractic care suitable for pregnant women with back pain?

Yes, chiropractic care is safe and effective for pregnant women experiencing back pain. Our chiropractors use specialised pregnancy techniques to alleviate discomfort during pregnancy. We also have specialised pregnancy pillows in our centres. Several of our doctors have experienced pregnancy and can relate to your current physical discomfort.

How long will each chiropractic treatment for back pain last?

Chiropractic treatments range from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your treatment plan and the specific techniques used. An initial consultation is 30 minutes or longer depending on your history.

Is chiropractic care only for adults, or can children benefit as well?

Chiropractic care can be beneficial for people of all ages, including children. Children are often subject to back pain due to growth spurts, sports injuries, or poor posture.
